About

In 2009 the Wangi Uniting Church decided that a share in the proceeds of a house sale could be used to benefit the local community by the construction of a Men’s Shed. A small committee of men from the church received guidance from the Australian Men’s Shed association, consulted with Lake Macquarie Council and decided to proceed. A well-attended public meeting at Wangi Workers Club on 26th of June 2009 resulted in a committee made up of both community and Church members was elected and planning began immediately.

Unfortunately, after several years of trying, the original plans to build the shed on Church grounds in French Road was rejected by Lake Macquarie Council. Our local member at the time, Greg Piper, was on his way to deliver this news when he noticed the vacant land at Wangi Oval and arranged with Council for this to be leased to Wangi Mens Shed. This proved to be a better option as it allowed building a bigger and more useful shed.

Many supporters and future members assisted in the construction of the current shed and, on the 28th of February 2015, the Wangi Mens Shed was officially opened with Peter Garland as chairman.
